LOCATION
GUADALUPE
A very special village in the heart of Spain
Guadalupe is the birthplace of Alvaro’s mum and grandma. It’s where the family’s secret recipes and a lot of childhood stories originate. This charming town of less than 2,000 inhabitants is also famous for The Royal Monastery of Guadalupe (a UNESCO World Heritage site that’s been standing since the 14th century), spectacular mountain views and traditional Spanish cuisine.
Pack your bags and bring your appetite to a town that’s been practicing hospitality since before Columbus crossed the Atlantic. (He actually visited here too, Guadalupe is just that cool!)
TRANSPORT
How to get there
The closest international airport is Madrid-Adolfo Suarez. You can only get to Guadalupe on road. The most convenient option is to rent a car at the airport. (Note there are 4 terminals if you book online) – Guadalupe is 240km South-West of Madrid, about 2.5h drive.
There is a bus line from Estación Sur de Autobuses to Guadalupe twice daily.
We are planning to organise a private return bus from Madrid if we get enough numbers, most likely Friday afternoon, returning Sunday afternoon. Please let us know if you would like a bus seat when you RSVP.
WHERE TO STAY
Accommodation
We are obliged to book a minimum number of rooms at the wedding venue, El Parador de Guadalupe. Please contact us if you would like to stay at the wedding venue: click here for details
THINGS TO DO
WHEN IN ROME...
Come for the "I do's," stay for the "Olé!"
Traveling in Spain will offer captivating contrasts and an incredible diversity of landscapes within very short distances. From the vibrant streets of the capital, to medieval history in Toledo or Segovia and breathtaking mountains and hikes in Avila, all within 2-3h drive from Madrid’s airport.
OUR STORY
We met at a hostel in Salento, Colombia, back in 2014. Annabel was just starting a 3-month holiday in South America. Alvaro had quit his job in London and was halfway through his journey from Canada to Argentina.
The next day, Annabel was supposed to leave for Cali, but she got lost hiking in the Cocora Valley. After being rescued at 2 am by some locals, a tired Annabel decided to stay in Salento a bit longer. (This was Alvaro’s chance!)
To this day it is not clear if Alvaro managed to charm Annabel into travelling south with him, or if she just fancied having a Spanish translator. Either way, over the next three months, we hitchhiked through Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Brazil. That little spark of “what if?” led to amazing adventures and memories together. Love was blooming, but Annabel had to go back to Australia.
Alvaro finished his trip in Ushuaia, and four months after saying goodbye in Brazil, he had a one-way ticket to Sydney. As they say, the rest is history.
Over the past ten years, we’ve had lots of good times, some tough moments, and even spent some time apart. Now, we can’t really imagine our lives without each other. We’re living in our new home with Chispa and Romeo, our two-year-old rescue cats, and we’re thrilled about this new chapter in our adventure together.

Cocktail attire, be aware it’s going to be hot and dry.
